Buccaneers Announce Captains For 2024

The Buccaneers announce their 2024 team captains
Transcript

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced their six captains on Thursday, ahead of their week one matchup against the Washington Commanders - and none of them come as any surprise.

On offense, it's Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans, and Tristan Wirfs while on defense the captains are Vita Vea, Lavonte David, and Antoine Winfield Jr.

This marks the eleventh time in his career that Lavonte David has been named a captain of the Bucs while Evans is now a captain for the eighth time. Together, the two players have been through four head coaches and won a Super Bowl while David is actually playing for his fifth coach since being drafted in 2012.

The Bucs seem to be keeping things small on the captain front this season despite a lot of leadership on both sides of the ball. While you can easily make the case for players like Chris Godwin or Chase McLaughlin as a special teams captain, there's no question that these six players steer the ship. Defensively, the Vea-David-Winfield levels of leadership are reminiscent of the old Sapp-Brooks-Lynch days with each man responsible for running and leading his section of the defense.

Offensively, you have one of the most formidable quarterback-wide receiver tandems from last season as well as the league's best left tackle at the helm.
