Bucs' RT Luke Goedeke Shows Up On Injury Report Wednesday

Starting Right Tackle's Status Uncertain For Sunday In Detroit
Transcript

Buccaneers’ RT Luke Goedeke showed up on the injury report Wednesday with a concussion. It wasn’t known until Wednesday that the Bucs’ second-year stud was in concussion protocol. This isn’t great news as the team is already dealing with a handful of injuries on the defensive side, and Goedeke has proven to be a great pass-protecting tackle on this offense line.

His status will play out throughout the week as he goes through protocol and attempts to clear it prior to Sunday’s match-up in Detroit. The NFL has seen roughly 25% of its players return from a concussion the following week over the past few seasons, so Tampa Bay will hope Goedeke can take positive strides as week two approaches.

If Goedeke is NOT able to suit up Sunday, the Bucs have versatile O-lineman Robert Hainsey, who previously lined up at center all throughout 2023, that could step up and replace Goedeke at the right tackle position. The team also has back-up LT Justin Skule who could make the flip to the opposite side if needed. Sunday in Detroit will prove to be a tough, physical game for whoever suits up at right tackle.

This offensive line was not a strong point for the Bucs in 2023, but with the addition of Graham Barton and the play calling from new offensive coordinator Liam Coen that will keep the defense guessing, this defense is slated to be one of the most improved position groups on Tampa Bay in 2024. We will monitor Goedeke at practice today and will keep up with his status up until kick-off Sunday.
