Chris Godwin Highest Graded Wide Receiver For Week One

PFF released their week one grades and named Chris Godwin the top receiver of the NFL's opening weekend
Transcript

Chris Godwin had himself a game in week one and it was something Bucs fans were hoping to see after a slow start to last season. Liam Coen made sure Godwin was a big part of the offense and Godwin made the most of his opportunities.

Eight targets led to a team high eight receptions, a team high 83 yards, and a touchdown. Five of his eight receptions came on third down and resulted in a first down - including a 24-yard gain on 3rd-and-17 late in the game.

Pro Football Focus decided that was good enough for Godwin to be named the highest graded receiver in the NFL for week one, coming in with a grade of 90.5, edging out Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett who had a 90.3.

It wasn't until week two of last season before Godwin eclipsed eight receptions and 80 yards and he had just three games where he passed the 80-yard mark and had just two games where he had eight or more receptions.

Godwin's utilization through the first week is what the Bucs need to see all season long in order to keep the offense moving down the field and getting themselves into scoring position. There aren't many - if any - slot corners in the league that can go one-on-one with Godwin so he will have matchup advantages all year long.
