Mike Evans: The Greatest Buccaneer Of All Time

GMFB's Kyle Brandt calls Mike Evans the greatest Buccaneers player ever - and he's 100% right
Transcript

There's no question the status of Mike Evans among the all-time greatest Buccaneers. He is, without question, the greatest offensive player the franchise has ever seen. His ten consecutive seasons of 1,000 or more receiving yards is a mark only surpassed by Jerry Rice - whose record can be tied by Evans this season. He's never not had 1,000 yards in a season and he's done it with six different starting quarterbacks. Yes, he had the greatest quarterback to ever play for a short span, but he also did it with Josh McCown, Mike Glennon, Jameis Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and now Baker Mayfield.

And forget the expanded season. Since the seventeenth game was introduced, Evans has still reached 1,000 yards within sixteen games meaning he never needed the extra game to reach that mark.

A franchise that has multiple Hall Of Fame players all on the defensive side of the ball, many have viewed players like Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, or Ronde Barber as the greatest the franchise has ever had to offer, but the fact is that it's Mike Evans - and his career isn't even over yet. I actually talked about it on Locked On Bucs not too long ago.

But now, Good Morning Football's Kyle Brandt has thrown his hat in the ring as one of the people supporting this take. Check it out;

No lies detected, Kyle. Evans is now one touchdown away from passing Martin Gramatica as the team's all-time leading scorer. He has 590 career points, two behind Gramatica. Mike Alstott, who is fifth in team history with 432 points, is the only other non-kicker in the top five. Evans has 97 career touchdowns and four 2-point conversions so not only will he become the team's all time leading scorer this season, he will also reach the 100 receiving touchdown plateau which has only been hit by Jerry Rice (197), Randy Moss (156), Terrell Owens (153), Cris Carter (130), Marvin Harrison (128), Larry Fitzgerald (121), Antonio Gates (116), Tony Gonzalez (111), Tim Brown (100), and Steve Largent (100).

Evans is currently twelfth all time with 97, just two behind Don Hutson.

Evans continues to add to his Hall Of Fame resume and by time his currently contract is up, there is a good chance he has surpassed Gates for seventh all-time, and could be closing in on Fitzgerald for sixth.

Evans has embodied what it means to be a Buccaneer, embraced the city and community, and will be one of the few receivers on that list to only wear one uniform for the course of his career. Evans, it's safe to say, is the greatest player to ever play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
