Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Detroit Lions: Week Two Thursday Injury Report

Thursday’s Injury Report Is Out And Has Key Changes
Transcript

Thursday proved to be a major day on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers injury front this week. Changes to the status of a few starters show us more clarity on their chances of playing Sunday, both good and bad.

Bucs’ CB Zyon McCollum left during the second quarter of the team’s 37-20 victory Sunday with a concussion and has been in protocol ever since. After being limited in Wednesday's practice, McCollum was upgraded to a full participant. It’s good a sign, but he will have to officially clear the concussion protocol before suiting up Sunday.

Another key starter who is under concussion protocol is RT Luke Goedeke. After a limited practice Wednesday, he took a step back and did not practice during Thursday’s session. Goedeke has proven to be a solid pass-protecting tackle, but if he were to be absent, back-up Justin Skule will seemingly take his place. As Skule was seen taking reps at right tackle with the starters during the media session of today’s practice.

DL Calijah Kancey missed week one with a calf injury, the same injury that kept him out of the first game of his rookie campaign. After an absence at practice Wednesday, he did not practice again on Thursday despite being seen on the field with teammates. He will seemingly miss this week’s game.

A few players on the uptrend towards playing this week include: LB K.J. Britt, DL William Gholston and DL Logan Hall. They were all limited Wednesday and now are fully back at practice.

Rookie Tykee Smith on the other hand, pops up on the injury report Thursday with an illness and did not participate today. We will see what happens there, as the Bucs will need their rookie safety to step up and play nickel with the absence of Antoine Winfield Jr. for the next three to four games.

For the Lions, two missing pieces to their starting lineup include DL Marcus Davenport and one of their most important players, LT Penei Sewell. They haven’t participated either day at practice and it seems the team will not rush their players back in week two.
