Two Buccaneers' Starting Defenders Battling Injury Have Good News

CB Zyon McCollum & DL Calijah Kancey's Game Status On An Upward Trend For Sunday
Transcript

Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Zyon McCollum and DT Calijah Kancey both saw improvement to their injuries Thursday at practice.

McCollum was seen without a non-contact jersey at practice a day after he was seen with one on at practice. He is dealing with a concussion and this news is a positive in terms of his status of playing Sunday. This Bucs’ secondary is dealing with a few injuries to key pieces and McCollum playing would be huge for the defense as a whole.

The same can be said for Buccaneers’ DT Calijah Kancey. The second-year interior force missed his second-consecutive week one in as many years and is dealing with the same injury that caused him to miss time in 2023. Kancey’s health is huge for both the Bucs’ pass-rush and run-stuffing efforts. He returns to the practice field Thursday after not practicing at all Wednesday. Although not fully participating with the defense, Kancey being on out the field in any capacity is seen as a positive for Tampa Bay.

It was an injury-ridden week one for Tampa, but it could always be worse. Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. is set to miss 3 to 4 games with a foot/ankle injury, luckily he avoided a longer-term injury. We should find out more from the injury report and Todd Bowles press conference shortly.
