Vita Vea Suffers Knee Injury In Win Over Lions

Two weeks in a row, a win is somewhat overshadowed by an injury to a key defensive player
Transcript

Another blow to the Bucs happened during Sunday’s win against the Detroit Lions and for the second straight week, the Bucs lose a key member of the defense. Defensive lineman Vita Vea suffered a knee injury and left the game without returning. The collision was friendly fire, but certainly didn’t look good by any means;

Early reports indicate that Vea didn’t suffer a major injury, but that he’s scheduled to get an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the damage;

Losing Vea after already being without Calijah Kancey and Antoine Winfield Jr is a massive blow, so hopefully if there is any absence it isn’t for an extended period of time - but the Buccaneers’ defense rallied despite losing one of its captains.

The Lions had 23 plays on the Bucs’ side of the field in the fourth quarter and the defense allowed zero points. SirVocea Dennis stepped up and tied Jordan Whitehead with eleven tackles for the most on the team. Zyon McCollum had a team high four pass breakups as well as his first career interception. Yaya Diaby may not have had a sack, but had some key pressures that derailed plays for the Lions, including on Goff’s errant throw that was intercepted by Christian Izien.

The Bucs certainly need Vea, but this defense implemented the “next man up” strategy to perfection. A complete team effort helped earn the upset win in the Motor City.

Todd Bowles had no update on Vea after the game, but there will be more information today, so stay tuned for the latest updates.
