DT Calijah Kancey is Officially OUT!

The injury bug at DT has gone from bad to worse with news on Saturday.
Transcript

The situation for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defensive tackle position has worsened this week, as Calijah Kancey has been officially ruled out. Kancey, who sustained a calf injury later in the week, was limited during Friday’s practice and initially listed as questionable. However, by Saturday, his status was downgraded to out.

This development is problematic for the Bucs, as Kancey’s speed was a key element of Todd Bowles' strategy to contain Washington Commanders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, a dual-threat player, in the upcoming 2024 season opener.

No position on the Bucs' roster has faced more challenges this week than defensive tackle. Along with Kancey’s absence, Tampa Bay will also be without backup defensive tackle Logan Hall, who was ruled out on Friday due to a foot injury. Hall didn’t practice throughout the week, so his absence was expected.

Kancey's late status change has left the Buccaneers scrambling to fill the gap ahead of Sunday’s game. As a result, the team promoted defensive tackles C.J. Brewer and Mike Greene from the practice squad on Saturday. Veteran Will Gholston is expected to start alongside Vita Vea, with Greg Gaines, Brewer, and Greene providing depth.

Additionally, the Buccaneers placed reserve defensive tackle Earnest Brown IV on short-term injured reserve and signed Ben Stille from the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad on Friday.
