Buccaneers Lost More Than a Game

Eight-year veteran receiver Chris Godwin is seen as one of the heartbeats of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster.
Transcript

After a devastating knee injury derailed his career early on, he worked his way back to full strength. Monday night, the road to recovery started over. With 1:04 remaining in a 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Godwin’s ankle was dislocated from a tackle, and he was carted out while wearing an aircast.

“It just absolutely sucks,” said Baker Mayfield. “Chris deserves better than that. He’s an unbelievable guy, an unbelievable teammate. Obviously, you guys have seen, he’s been playing extraordinarily this year... it’s never something you want to see [happen] to any of your guys. I don’t know what we’re going to do, but we’re going to have some guys step up, but thoughts and prayers to Chris and his family right now. Just sucks.”

After a year out wide under Dave Canales, Liam Coen came into the Buccaneers organization as the new offensive coordinator and swiftly moved Godwin back into the slot. The move put Godwin on a heater, ranking second in receiving yards (576), third in receiving touchdowns (5), and first in receiving first downs (33).

With Godwin being ruled out for the season with a dislocated ankle, many wonder if this is the last time we’ve seen “1-Fo” in a Buccaneers jersey as Godwin is slated to become a free agent in the offseason.

Where the Buccaneers will go now in the receiver room is to be determined, especially now that they have to move forward with a divisional game coming up this Sunday at home vs. the Atlanta Falcons.
