Bucs Claim Super Bowl Champion

A 2-time Super Bowl Champion is returning to the team that drafted him in 2019
Transcript

He’s back.

The Buccaneers on Thursday put in and successfully claimed Safety Mike Edwards after he was released on Wednesday by the Tennessee Titans.

Edwards, who was drafted by the Bucs in 2019 helped the team win their second Super Bowl back in 2020. During his tenure with the Buccaneers, he appeared in 58 games, starting in 23 of them. During his time in Tampa, Mike would go on to record a total of 184 tackles, collect 7 interceptions, record 21 pass break ups, force a fumble while recovering 3 fumbles. He would get to the quarterback 2 times and record 7 tackles for a loss.

After finishing the 2022 season, he would become an unrestricted free agent and sign with the Kansas City Chiefs where he would go on to win his 2nd Super Bowl championship. In 2023, he would sign with the Buffalo Bills but end up being released after 3 games with the team.

He would then sign with the Tennessee Titans but would be inactive for their game vs the Los Angeles Chargers only to be released on Wednesday.

Mike Edwards joins a Buccaneers team looking to get back on track defensively. The secondary has been needing a spark with key players going down with injury and now as the bye week moves along, he looks to add just that along side Jordan Whitehead and Antoine Winfield Jr. who he won a championship with back in 2020.

After the bye week, the Bucs will head into MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Giants in Week 12.
